It was in Latin America in the 1970s that Augusto Boal developed the Theatre of the Oppressed...Theatre of the Oppressed, a theatrical method aimed at bringing social and political conflicts to light by empowering oppressed and marginalised groups to speak out. It offers actors and non-actors techniques such as Forum Theatre, Image Theatre and Invisible Theatre to explore and address these conflicts. Now led by Rui Frati from Paris, the theatre company performs throughout France and internationally: in schools, hospitals, community centres and prisons, as well as in businesses and community centres serving vulnerable groups.
